SUSTAINABILTY - Sal y Más

ECONYL

Sal y Mas cares about the planet and especially about our oceans. Therefore we decided to make our bikinis of ECONYL ®. This is regenerated nylon, made out of waste that’s been rescued from landfills and oceans around the world. ECONYL ® supports the removal of marine debris and is made of regenerated waste, including ocean plastic, nylon scraps, and fishnets. This yarn is then used to create the luxurious, soft, and durable fabric we use to make for our swimwear. It performs exactly the same as brand new nylon and it can be recycled, recreated, and remolded again and again. That means you can create new products and buy new products without ever having to use new resources.

OUR MISSION

We aim to slowly and carefully create our collections that are timeless, rather than conforming to the fast multi-seasonal releases. This is to ensure our goal to not overproduce. The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries on earth. We want to tackle this problem by focusing on one of the least sustainable products in this industry, swimwear. Most people only wear their swimwear just during the holidays, so most of the time they just lay in your closet. Therefore we designed our bikinis in a way that they can also be worn as casual wear, by adding a sleeve, adjustable ties, or just some more coverage! Our goal is to inspire women to combine our timeless bikinis with their own wardrobe, to give swimwear a whole new dimension! We would love to create a community with women all over the world inspiring and supporting each other. We will use our socials to connect with you and share inspiration on how you can combine your favorite Sal y Mas items with your own wardrobe. We hope you will do the same!

PRODUCTION

Bikinis

We are proud to say that our factory and team in Portugal maintains equal high standards of ethics and environmental responsibility. Portuguese factories follow European laws and policies regarding Labour relations practices. Our factory in Porto has been carefully chosen in order to guarantee high-quality standards. Portugal is known for quality workmanship, respecting working conditions, premium fabrics research, and to improve on knowledge and technology.

Merchandise collection

Our merchandise collection is printed in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. This company provides sustainable print techniques. For example, they only use water based ink, which means that it contains less harmful substances and it will dry under lower temperatures so it costs less energy. The merchandise collection is printed with the screen printing technique. The advantage of this technique is the colorfastness, which means that the color is very wash/weather-resistant. It’s also a very sustainable technique, the print won’t fade and therefore it will last for a long time. Check our Instagram (BTS highlights) to discover the process of screen printing.

All items of our merchandise collection are made of 100% organic cotton. The producer of the bags and tees therefore received a couple of (sustainability) certifications:

● GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards)
● PETA – Approved Vegan (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)
● Fair Wear – Foundation (Providing good working conditions in factories)
● OEKO tex – (Tested for harmful substances)
